Review
Like a lot of people, I’m a big fan of Stranger Things, but I’ve never taken the time to listen to the whole soundtrack for season one until now! It starts out strong with the title theme, and it’s populated with synths that create an iconic 1980s-inspired sound with mysterious undertones. I have to say, after watching the show, I was surprised at how many calm tracks there are in this soundtrack. Tracks like “This Isn’t You” and “Eleven” have an almost atmospheric quality to them and offer a rather mesmerizing listen. “Castle Byers” gives us a bit of mystery and melancholy, while the following “Hawkins” introduces some eerie tones. This is a very electronic-heavy soundtrack, which builds the mystery and eeriness of the world extraordinarily well and successfully sets the tone for the show. The second half of the soundtrack features a lot of dark and creepy tracks that definitely fit the sinister tone of the Upside Down and the dangers it presents. This would be a great soundtrack for mystery/thriller writing, especially if you’re writing something with ‘80s sci-fi influences!
