Review
This is a long soundtrack, clocking in at over three and a half hours, however, every second of it is top notch. It opens with a dramatic motif comprised of chanting male vocals, and then carries on with a softer, second track “Awake.” The third track, “From Past to Present” is softer like the second, yet both still have an epic feel to them. That epicness carries through this entire score, maintained even through the softer tracks by using certain sounds and instruments and the pacing of the notes. The score has many vocals throughout, ranging from ambient (“Silent Footsteps”) to epic (“Dragonborn”) to ethereal choir (“Standing Stones”). It also features instruments such as flute, piano, orchestral strings, and even plucked strings at times. Emotionally, this score has an epic feel throughout, combined with tenderness in the softer tracks, and even bittersweet sadness, as in “Journey’s End.” Overall, I loved this score. It has everything you would want from a fantasy game soundtrack, and it maintains its top-tier quality through a long runtime. It’s a great score to listen to on varied occasions, especially since it does not have jarring changes in pace. Certainly a score to put on during a writing session, while reading in your favorite cozy spot on the couch, or perhaps even during your D&D campaign.
