Review
This soundtrack sets the tone early with an eerie theme, foreboding strings, and ominous deep drum beats. The following main title theme is solid, with enchanting plucked strings and mysterious notes. This score is less varied than others, consisting of a lot of ominous motifs that evoke a fear of the unknown and perhaps a little dread (slightly unsettling strings accomplish this quite nicely). The track “Essex” gives us a little respite from the tense mood, bringing quite a pleasant sound with its strings, and “Fata Morgana” is a nice balance of calm and mystery with easy piano and strings. “The Gilded Cage” features an interesting composition of cellos (at least, I think they are cellos). Aside from a couple tracks, this is not the most easy-listening album, but it would probably be helpful while writing mysteries.
