Review
Maybe I’m a bit partial to emotive soundtracks with whimsical qualities, but this soundtrack immediately pulled me in with its first track, “Leaving Krypton.” With soft piano, heroic motifs, and whimsical strings, it definitely has a superhero sound while maintaining the lighthearted undertones common to animated films. Composer Steve Jablonksy uses brief portions of Danny Elfman’s Batman theme, as well as John Williams’ classic Superman theme, a couple of times throughout the soundtrack which I thought was a nice touch! There’s also a wonderful tender piano motif that shows up in “Leaving Krypton” and “It Is I, Dog-El.” I wouldn’t say this soundtrack is the most unique, and some tracks would probably fit in just as well in other animated films, but personally, I really enjoyed it… but then again, I have a soft spot for fun animated film soundtracks.
