Review
With a beautifully layered first track (“Beast”), this soundtrack opens strong. Plucked guitar, breathy wind instruments, and vocalizations are prevalent throughout the album, giving it a unique flair. High-energy strings and percussion keep the pace moving, even if they have a familiar “action flick” sound to them. The vocals in this soundtrack are fascinating, adding beauty at times and evoking fear and intensity at others. Some tracks, like “To the Water,” feature almost ambient vocalizations that add atmosphere and provide a foreboding backdrop, while others, like “Stay in the Car,” have vocals that are more eerie and intense. “In His Territory Now” used melancholy cellos and a percussion tempo that mimics panicky breathing and keeps the listener on-edge. This soundtrack impressed me, despite the more generic-sounding strings and percussion, because it also has impressive elements that make it stand out above some other action/survival movie soundtracks.
