Review
I think “disconcerting” is a good word to describe this soundtrack, but it has some elements that make it somewhat unique. The music is clearly meant to put the listener on-edge, and it has an element of subtlety that makes it especially off-putting and certainly kept me guessing (I kept anticipating a jump scare). The track “Trolley to HQ” has some uh…interesting vocalizations that start out whispery and turn to heavy breathing until they finally crescendo with the music. These breathy elements are present in some later tracks as well, and sound like a twist on passion. This soundtrack is not exactly an enjoyable listen but I feel like it probably does what it’s meant to within the context of the movie it accompanies. It may not be one of John Powell’s most beautiful scores, but it definitely proves his versatility.
