Review
This score is characterized by brass, chanting vocals, and percussion, as well as some electric guitar and electronic elements. I wasn’t crazy about the main theme, as it feels a bit repetitive and generic (and it’s featured in quite a few tracks throughout the score, so it gets a bit old). Most of the tracks are energetic, fast-paced, and a bit repetitive, so much of this score feels like the soundtrack to one long action scene. Many of the tracks would make decent additions to a workout playlist, but overall they don’t feel like they have much heart (of course, I may be measuring this up to the Man of Steel score, which I think has a very strong emotional core). I did enjoy tracks like “Introducing the JSA” and “The Justice Society Theme” (which are better than the main theme in my opinion). I also appreciated the tracks that explored some more varied motifs, like “Father & Son” and “A Bad Plan is a Good Plan,” and I wish Lorne Balfe would have explored these further instead of featuring the repetitive main theme so much. For a superhero action movie, I suppose it’s not a terrible soundtrack, but it doesn’t feel all that deep.
