Review
Full of whimsy, tear-jerking emotion, and the spirit of adventure, the Up soundtrack is classic Pixar. One of the standout tracks is, of course, “Married Life,” where composer Michael Giacchino takes the listener on a rollercoaster of emotions, starting with peppy optimism and ending in sad piano notes that bring tears to the eyes. This piano motif pops up throughout the soundtrack, serving as the emotional core that beautifully ties the whole score together. Giacchino earned an Oscar, a Golden Globe, the BAFTA and two GRAMMY Awards for his score for Up, and I believe they are well-deserved. It was his third Pixar score (after The Incredibles and Ratatouille) and he certainly delivered. With vintage jazz elements, emotional piano, and orchestra, Giacchino crafted a score with a big heart and lasting themes.
