Review
I’m a sucker for calm soundtracks, and John Powell really does a great job with P.S. I Love You. Characterized by guitar and strings, this romance soundtrack is a great background listen. I’ve been listening to it for years while working, writing, and even while doing homework back in the day. It’s a relaxing listen and has a unique calming effect. The tracks have an emotional quality to them with some sadness, whimsy and everything in between. For instance, despite the name, “Puke / 1st Letter” is a lovely track with wind instruments, plucked strings, bell melodies and soaring strings. The music does a great job of evoking emotion and inspiring daydreams, like the track “The Kennedys” which has a lovely Irish sound to it and what I believe to be an Irish flute, and the next track, “Last Tune,” which, though short, really tugs on the heartstrings. There are so many lovely tracks on this album that I have a hard time only picking a Top 3. John Powell has such a way with melodies in so many of his soundtracks, and this is definitely up there as one of my favorites of his. Give it a listen on Valentine’s Day, or while reading, working, studying, or when you just need a bit of calm in your life. I don’t think you’ll regret it.
