Review
While the main theme may be approaching iconic at this point, the rest of the album, surprisingly beautiful and calm considering the intensity of the show, deserves a listen for its own merit. Composer Brian Tyler does a masterful job giving the strings a Western sound and employs the cello’s meditative and emotional power to bridge past regrets and present loves, and capturing the inescapable beauty of the Montana landscape. Tyler’s composition method was unconventional: writer/director Taylor Sheridan had him write both to and away from picture, which meant that Sheridan provided the composer with mood boards and imagery to write to, and then edited the show to the music Tyler would compose (along with the conventional method of composing “to picture,” i.e., writing the music after you see what’s been filmed). This a very thematic and melodic soundtrack, great for thinking and reading, with only a couple intense tracks, such as "Let them Come."
