Review
The South American ronroco and guitar are back in force for Joel and Ellie’s continuing story, though with a harder edge for an edgier sequel. The theme from the first game remains as we’d hope, and there’s plenty of beautiful soloing on ronroco, guitar, and banjo throughout. The rest of the music leans toward atmospheric, though with substance, always feeling like something is going on behind the score. Mac Quayle was brought onto this score specifically to compose the combat music, as heard in tracks like “The Cycle of Violence,” which is excellent for what it is. In total, it’s a beautiful soundtrack that captures all the feels of the post-apocalyptic story it ensouls. Want more? Check out this Wikipedia article. Also, while not on the score (it’s on this later release), Joel plays Pearl Jam’s “Future Days,” which serves as a theme for the father/daughter relationship in the game.
